Dog Park Rules

Although members of WHDPC and West Hartford Animal Control officers visit the park periodically, it is usually unsupervised, except by the users themselves. Dog parks succeed when the users have a sense of ownership about it. So please take of the park – it’s yours.

The Posted Rules:

The West Hartford Dog Park is open from sunrise to sunset every day.

Dogs are permitted off-leash within the fenced area. All other laws and town ordinances apply in the dog park.

You must remain in the park. carry a leash, keep your dog under control, and be respectful to others.

Dogs must display a valid license and an up-to-date rabies vaccination tag.

Dogs must be on a leash until they are inside the fenced-in area.

The following animals are prohibited and not allowed: aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, sick dogs, dogs under 4 months of age, or animals other than dogs.

Clean-up after your dog. Deposit pet waste in the proper containers. If your dog digs a hole. fill it.

Any kind of food, including dog treats, can cause unwanted behaviors and are not allowed.

Smoking, alcoholic beverages, and glass containers are not allowed.

Park users and dog owners assume all risks related to use of the dog park including, but not limited to, risk of injury to persons or dogs. If your dog causes injury to a person, another dog or property, you are personally responsible and liable.

An adult must accompany children under 15 years of age. The adult is responsible for the safety and behavior of their children.
